Emma Fishback
RP(Q)
Emma is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying). Emma holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a minor in Women’s and Gender Studies from The University of Tulsa, and a Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling from Oklahoma State University. Emma is an immigrant to Canada and worked as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) while in Oklahoma. Emma has significant experience supporting children, teens, parents, and families in a variety of settings, including schools, youth shelters, and community mental health agencies. Emma also provided hope-focused therapy to clients working through family trial reunification plans and child welfare cases in Oklahoma.
Emma leads with a trauma-informed, client-centered, systemic approach to therapy that centers curiosity and playfulness, and values the client as the expert on their lived experiences. Emma feels honored to hold and mutually process presenting concerns, including major life stressors and traumas, with families. She strongly believes healing comes from not asking “What is wrong with you?” but instead “What happened to you?” Emma also values cultural humility and liberation-oriented therapy, and views children at the center of a complex interplay of individual, familial, and societal systems. Emma strives to help clients meet their goals and deepen their confidence and relationships with themselves, others, and the world through creative session activities and compassionate yet curious conversations.
While in the United States, Emma received training in the modalities of Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP), Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT). Emma draws concepts from the tenets and interventions of each to inform her integrative work in Canada. Emma has also received additional training in perinatal and maternal mental health, and is a registered Circle of Security Parenting facilitator.
Emma believes that supporting authenticity and play are core to life and necessary for healing. She wants both you and your child or teen to know that she will work with you to foster an affirming space that meets your specific needs. She deeply enjoys tailoring sessions around a child’s interests and passions and celebrating each person’s uniqueness and individuality. Emma also greatly enjoys working with neurodivergent clients and members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. Emma commonly works with presenting concerns including trauma, parenting skills, attachment, family conflicts, emotional regulation, identity, anxiety, and self-esteem. Outside of the office, Emma enjoys creative expression such as dancing and drawing, walking through cityscapes and nature, and engaging in a good game, movie, or book with her cat by her side.
