Child Therapy
At Bloom we LOVE working with children using creativity. Child therapy involves integrative (directive and non-directive) play therapy techniques with children. Bloom therapists use play and expressive arts therapies, including cognitive behavioural play therapy, Adlerian therapy, child-centred play therapy, sandtray worldplay, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), mindfulness, psychoanalytic therapy, narrative therapy, art therapy and music therapy, among others. Bloom therapists believe it is a privilege to learn about the inner world and experiences of children. Your child’s emotional, psychological, spiritual and physical aspects of the self will be included in treatment.

Bloom therapists specialize in a variety of issues affecting children including obstacles and issues associated with ADD/ADHD, ODD, depression, anxiety, OCD, disruptive behaviours and trauma. They also work with children who are facing school problems, bullying, family problems, grief and loss and health issues. Bloom therapists specialize in working with children with a variety of abilities including children with physical, learning and developmental disabilities, children with autism and Asperger’s. Bloom offers support for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or queer or questioning (LGBTQ+) children.
Please note that all children 12 years old and under will require a parent only session to establish goals, get a full history of the child, to collaborate with parents on the therapeutic process, and answer questions.
If your child is feeling anxious, acts out in school or at home, struggles with regulating their emotions, has experienced a loss, trauma or other big changes in their lives, struggles with low self-esteem, has problems with relationships, engages in self-defeating behaviours, or is overwhelmed, therapy can help your child overcome personal hurdles, create resilience, and learn new ways of engaging in their worlds.
