Carey Sipes

MSW, RSW

Carey Sipes is a Registered Social Worker who holds a Master of Social Work from Wilfrid Laurier University. Carey has over 25 years working in the community providing assessment and treatment for children, teens, young adults and their families. Treatment settings have included the school board, hospital, primary care, bereavement and youth justice system. Throughout the treatment process Carey understands the importance of working collaboratively with community partners and caregivers.

Carey works with children/teens 9 years and older. Carey has experience working with a diversity of needs and is specifically passionate about working with children and teens experiencing anxiety (generalized anxiety, social anxiety, panic, specific fears, obsessive compulsive disorder). Carey also works with young people and their families experiencing challenges with mood including suicidal ideation and self harm, self regulation, grief, school concerns, family dynamics, stress, parenting, body image and self esteem.

Carey’s work is informed from a variety of treatment approaches that are evidence based, strength-based, trauma-informed, gender affirming and client centred. Carey has completed certificates in multiple theoretical frameworks and utilizes techniques from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT, including Exposure Response Therapy ERP), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution Focussed Therapy and Motivational Therapy. Carey is also a certified children’s yoga teacher which provides a further technique in helping children connect to their mental well being through movement, body awareness and mindfulness.

Carey is creative, passionate and caring in her approach to working with clients. As a mom of two teenage girls she strives to extend the same care she would want to see for her own children. She recognizes the strength it takes to seek support, and she values the trusting relationship between client and counsellor. Young people seeking support will find Carey to be genuine, down to earth, empathetic, non judgemental and compassionate.
