Abdullahi Hussein

BSW, MSW, RSW

Abdullahi is a dedicated and highly skilled registered social worker, holding a master’s degree in social work from Wilfrid Laurier University and a Bachelor of Social Work from York University. With a decade of experience in community social work and mental health, he is committed to the mental health and well-being of teenagers and young adults aged 12 and older.

Abdullahi specializes in helping young individuals facing a range of challenges, including anger management, anxiety, depression, academic stress, suicidality, self-harm, and trauma. His support extends to parents, aiding them in navigating systems and fostering acceptance when parenting children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), disabilities, and special needs.

Abdullahi is a source of guidance for teenagers encountering school-related problems, adapting to life in a new country, and addressing complex family dynamics. Abdullahi conducts family therapy sessions with first-generation children and their families. He also works with young people on issues related to grief, bereavement, developing social skills, and processing trauma.

Abdullahi is well versed in working with parents of adopted children and teenagers, providing valuable support. He utilizes a variety of therapeutic approaches, including trauma-informed therapy, solution-focused techniques, motivational interviewing, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT). Abduallhi takes into account the cultural, spiritual and familial context of each young person, seamlessly integrating these aspects into the therapy process.

When needed, Abdullahi offers home and community-based therapy, ensuring that the environment is most conducive to the individual’s progress. He is a warm and compassionate therapist, deeply passionate about the mental well-being of teenagers and young adults, and is dedicated to helping them navigate life’s challenges with resilience and strength.
